Learning and Skills Council

Who are they?

The Learning and Skills Council (LSC) is a publicly-funded organisation charged with building a dynamic and successful Further Education (FE) system for England, to give young people, adults and employers the high quality learning and skills they need for economic and social success..

Apprenticeships are fully funded by the LSC if the learners are aged 16+, without a degree level qualification, working 16 hours per week (minimum) and are not already involved in funded training.

The Train to Gain scheme

(Funding for NVQs)

Train to Gain is the new national skills programme that was introduced across the whole of England at the end of 2006.

It is at the heart of the implementation of the Skills Strategy and offers employers free training for employees/volunteers aged 19+ to achieve either their first level 2 qualification or their first level 3 qualification.
