This programme will suit individuals from a variety of sectors and organisations, creating a positive mental health environment.

This is for anyone in a first line management role, who can take responsibility for managing a team or project. They can support, manage and develop a team. More than ever Team Leader/Supervisors have a responsibility to consider the mental health of their team at work.

“Mental health is about how we think, feel and behave. Anxiety and depression are the most common mental health problems. They are often a reaction to a difficult life event and can also be caused by work-related issues”. REF HSE

This programme will not only teach existing employees about their roles and responsibilities as a leader, it will also give them a clear understanding of mental health in the workplace, potential barriers and how mental ill health can affect the business. 

What's Involved

The Apprentice will complete a portfolio of documented evidence and online activities which will support the knowledge, skills and behaviours.

Learners can also incorporate one of the following mental health qualifications:

  • Level 2 Award in the introduction to Mental Health First Aid*
  • Level 3 Award in Understanding Mental Health in the Workplace for Managers*
  • Level 3 Award in Workplace Wellbeing*
    * To be discussed and agreed at sign up

The Apprentice will need to complete the following to gain apprenticeship certification:

Level 3 Diploma in Management:

Learners will achieve the Level 3 Diploma in Management or equivalent management qualifications. Where the qualification is not used, there should be underpinning knowledge and training with regular assessments to an equivalent standard which can be evidenced.

Functional Skills in maths and English:

These provide practical skills to help gain the most out of work, education and everyday life. Learners will complete written and online tests.

End-point assessment:

The end-point assessment is the final stage of the apprenticeship. It comprises written and practical tests and the completion of a work-based project as well as a showcase of evidence, professional dialogue and interview.


Following enrollment, learners engage in a blended programme of training and support that will include attendance at group training sessions, self-directed learning, email and face-to-face support from their trainer/assessor as well as a programme of training devised by the employer.

The length of the programme will differ depending on experience, knowledge and skills development but the course should usually take 15 months plus end-point assessment.
