What's Involved
The learner will need to complete the following units to gain AAT certification:
Bookkeeping transactions:
On completion of this unit, learners will be able to understand the double entry booking system, process financial documents into a book of prime entry and ledger accounts as well as being able to produce an initial trial balance.
Learning outcomes include how to:
Understand financial transactions within a bookkeeping system, process customer transactions, process supplier transactions, process receipts and payments and process transactions through the ledgers to the trial balance.
Bookkeeping controls:
On completion of this unit the learner will be able to maintain the journal and control accounts, reconcile balances and make corrections and redraft the trial balance. They will also understand the banking system.
Learning outcomes include how to:
Understand payment methods, understand controls in a bookkeeping system, use control accounts, use the journal and reconcile a bank statement with the cash book.
Award in Computerised Accounting Software:
With this qualification, learners can build on knowledge of accounting software packages learning practical skills from using accounting software, entering accounting transactions and producing a range of reports.
Learning outcomes include how to:
Set up accounting software, process sales and purchase transactions, perform bank and cash transactions, perform period end routine tasks and produce reports.
Delivery
The course will be delivered through attendance at afternoon or evening classes running from 1:30pm – 5:00pm or 5.30pm -9pm. The course will run for 18 weeks.
Progression
Avenues of progression include:
- Level 3 Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship
- AAT Level 2 (Full) Certificate or Level 3 Diploma in Accounting
Costs
The course fees are £441.00 (+VAT) plus the requirement to join AAT as a student member. Costs may vary.
You may qualify for full or part grant towards the cost of this course if you are employed by an organisation in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin or Herefordshire (The Marches) or if you are in receipt of benefits and actively seeking work. Please contact us to discuss eligibility.
