Introducing a new engineering course
SBC Training is introducing a new course to the Engineering and Manufacturing department, The Cobot Robot Arm!
In this blog post, we will be sharing the journey of one of our Engineering and Manufacturing, trainers, Andrew Hesketh. We will be including the pathways that are offered, and how our apprentices will gain skills and knowledge in robotics.
Andrew started his engineering career in the aerospace industry, and thoroughly enjoyed the technology. He then went into the automotive industry and carried out a 5-year apprenticeship in precision toolmaking.
“I chose a career in engineering because I have always enjoyed “hands on” working and loved making and fixing mechanical parts and machines”. Andrew explained.
Andrew learnt many skills; all varieties of welding – MIG, TIG, and MMA, working with lathes, millers, and surface grinders, heavily into mechanical maintenance, working on a variety of large machines.
“I love engineering and the satisfaction it brings. Manufacturing environments are fast paced and a great place to work as part of a team. Small or large”. Andrew said.
Over the years he then went down a management route and enjoyed the progression and variety that an apprenticeship can offer. Andrew enjoys all aspects of engineering and he became a trainer for engineering as he wanted to pass on his skills and knowledge to learners and support the engineering industry in this country.
Some advice Andrew gave was “to think about the path you want to follow and do some taster sessions to ensure you enjoy it. Take advice from people in engineering trades”.
SBC Training helps guide their apprentices in engineering activities which are key to the success of the Manufacturing and Engineering sector. They offer and support development in the following pathways:
