Posted: 11th Jan, 2019
18th Edition (2382-18) – City & Guilds – 1 day course
The course is for practicing electricians and domestic installers. However, it is also very popular with allied professionals such as contracts managers, designers, electrical engineers, consultants, surveyors and other related trades needing to update and enhance their understanding of the IEE Wiring Regulations.
Every installation from January 2019 will need to be designed in line with the 18th Edition wiring regulations. Also anyone looking to register with a competent person scheme such as NICEIC and NAPIT will need the latest qualification.

Many people assume that the 18th Edition course will contain lots of extra content. However, in reality it will still remain very similar to the current 17th Edition course. Key topics include:
- Scope, object and fundamental principles
- Protection for safety
- Assessment of general characteristics
- Inspection and testing
- Selection and erection of equipment
- Special installations or locations
The 1 day 18th Edition course will focus mainly on the changes to the 17th edition since the third amendment, plus how to navigate the latest blue book. The course will not cover every regulation. However, you will be able to reference the latest regulations as you would on-the-job.
You are required to take a 2 hour open-book, online, multiple choice test which will be booked at SBC Training. You will be able to take a copy of your light blue 18th Edition Regulations book (BS 7671) into the test as long as it has not been written in.
Please note that photographic ID such as a passport or driving licence is required in order to sit the test.
Learners should have passed the 17th Edition since the last amendment was published (2382-15). Learners who do not hold the 17th edition with the last amendment should take our 3 day 18th edition course. As a general rule learners should have knowledge of electrical installation and electrical science. All learners must be over 16 years old.
£198.00* per person.
This includes cost of registration, online test and certification. Learners will be required to bring their own copy of the 18th edition light blue regulations book.
Re-sits will incur an additional fee of £60*.
