18th Edition (2382-22) – City & Guilds

The course is for practising electricians and domestic installers. However, it is also very popular with allied professionals such as contracts managers, designers, electrical engineers, consultants, surveyors and other related trades needing to update and enhance their understanding of BS 7671, IET Wiring Regulations.

Every installation from January 2019 will need to be designed in line with the 18th Edition wiring regulations. Also, anyone looking to register with a competent person scheme such as NICEIC and NAPIT will need the latest qualification.

What's Involved

Many people assume that the 18th Edition course will contain lots of extra content. However, in reality it will still remain very similar to the current 17th Edition course. Key topics include:

  • Scope, object and fundamental principles
  • Definitions
  • Protection for safety
  • Assessment of general characteristics
  • Inspection and testing
  • Selection and erection of equipment
  • Special installations or locations

The 18th Edition course will focus mainly on the changes to the 17th edition since the third amendment, plus how to navigate the latest blue book. The course will not cover every regulation. However, you will be able to reference the latest regulations as you would on-the-job. The 3 day course will cover this is greater depth.

You are required to take a 2 hour open-book, online, multiple choice test which will be booked at SBC Training. You will be able to take a copy of your brown 18th Edition Regulations book (BS 7671) into the test as long as it has not been written in.

Please note that photographic ID such as a passport or driving licence is required in order to sit the test.

We also offer the facility to sit the 18th Edition exam on its own. Please contact us to find out our availability.
